Timeline: MD 01
1000 words - 2 OF Standard Post Measure

Lily blew a stray strand of hair away from her forehead, it being stubborn at leaving she brushed it back with her hand. Resuming her perusal of her checklist, and adjusting the strap to her mid sized duffle, Lily saw her next objective, meeting the Chief of Security. On her way to Deck Five, Lily mused to herself, "I thought being an assistant medical officer had a lot of details to attend to, but Chief Medical Officer, there is even more to do. Dr. Holmes had warned me and did his best to prepare me..." she sighed, "I wish you were here, Edward.. that is.. wish you were alive so I can get some advice..."

A memory popped up in her mind, and she could hear his voice, "Chin up Lily, I will always be with you, even when I am gone." Lily gave a small chuckle, shaking her head and gaining control over her tears. That will have to wait until all is finished.

She found herself in front of the door, she hoped was the Chief of Security's office, and that he was in. Taking a calming breath to get her heartrate back to normal, she pressed the chime to let whomever was inside know, that there was someone there.

Her emotions were easily picked up and Lhaes looked up as the chime went. "Come in doctor," he called out, just grabbing the cat just in case she had ideas of escaping. He wasn't quite sure where his other cat was at but that one was less likely to try and sneak out.

Lily stepped in, her calm visage immediately changing to that of a smile, spotting a cat in someone's arms. Her attention shifted towards the male holding the cat, "Lovely cat you have there. I'm Lieutenant Lily Marlow, the new CMO, barely arrived on the ship. You are...I am hoping, the Chief of Security?"

Now that the door closed, Lhaes let the cat go and it scooted under the desk to hide. "One of two, and yes I am." The Romulan smiled but didn't offer his hand in greeting. "Lieutenant Commander Lhaes Sommers," he introduced himself, "what can I do for you?"

"I dropped by to get my security clearances, plus to say hello." Lily stated, not in the least upset that he didn't offer his hand. She knew different races, especially those of Romulan and Vulcan do not make physical contact on a whim. They were highly sensitive on the telepathy scale.

"Also, would you like an apple or an orange, or both?" she added.

"Neither thank you," the Romulan declined as he turned his attention to his computer for a moment. he retrieved a PADD and downloaded some data onto it, then pushed it towards the woman. "Your security clearance. How are you on your phaser certification?"

Lily pulled out her padd to check on that status. "I am good so far, but I do believe my re-certification is coming up. " Checking on her notifications."Ah yes, I am due for that in a month. And I need to do some more training." making a note of that.

"We can certainly schedule that," Lhaes acknowledged, "just come to me when you have time and we'll make sure you get some time on the range."

Lily smiled, "That would be fantastic. Are there any questions you have for me? Any advice? What are your cats names?"

"Their names are Mittens and Hackles, they're getting old by now and mostly sleep if they're not trying mischief," the Romulan chuckled, "I do have one question, or rather a request. Once or twice a week I'd like to be scheduled for a shift in sickbay to keep my medical licence valid."

"I would be delighted to do so, Commander Sommers. " Lily replied, "And in return, I would like to learn more about security, never hurts to learn more about different subjects."

"Of course. I will schedule you for a shift and assign someone to accompany you and explain to you how we work." He smiled gratefully at her. "I am also available in case of medical emergencies, though i don't have any specialisation. Just basic medical degree, nothing more."

Lily nodded, "A basic medical degree is good, in all honesty and I will be quite happy to have you in Medical. As for scheduling me for a shift. I will be looking forward to it, please let me know as soon as possible. Is there anyone else I need to meet with, someone to meet in this department? I've been meeting crew members and introducing myself, always best to know whom I will be working with. Besides, quite a few people don't really like to come into Medical for a social visit, so.. I go meet them."

"Yes and doctors make the worst patients themselves." The Romulan chuckled. "Fortunately I've grown more careful over the years, and I'm rarely sick. Besides, my wife would not be amused if i weren't to report to sickbay if something was off."

Nodding, Lily replied. "My mother told my dad the same thing. She would be very put out if he didn't let her know he wasn't feeling too well. After all she is a doctor." she chuckled."Well, I'll be going now, I have more things to do, all part of settling in to my new home. A pleasure, Commander Sommers." rising up from her chair.

"You're welcome," the Romulan replied, rising as well. "If you need anything I'm sure the quartermaster will be able to assist."

"I will make sure to do that."Lily gave a nod.She leaned over and waved at the kitty who was under the desk. "it was a pleasure meeting you as well." She straightened up, smiled at Commander Sommers, and left.

"Well... that was different," Lhaes murmured as Mittens jumped back onto his desk, batting her paw at his hand to draw attention. "A CMO wanting a run in security, that'll be interesting."
