Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Immediately following "Phasering"
1103 words - 2.2 OF Standard Post Measure

The transport to sickbay was swift and efficient, with the still body of a young Vulcan male being deposited on one of the vacant beds. His vitals seemed stable though the monitor started beeping in alarm straight away.

Sandy was in her office when she had gotten the call. She had already set up the necessary tools up. As the body materialized on the biobed she was right with him with a medical tricorder to scan the wound on the chest. All the way she didn't spoke. She took out a dermal re generator, she motioned for a nurse to help her remove the burned uniform. they worked very gently as the uniform had bits burned in to the skin. All the way she looked on the biobed's monitors to keep an eye on his vitals.

They used scissors to remove the large bits of the uniform that wasn't burned before focusing on the chest wound. Soon there were Next to the doctor there were 3 more people around the biobed to work on the wound. Sandy put on some gloves as she started to repair the wound while gently started to remove the pieces of burned uniform.

The young patient seemed not to notice, even though his face occasionally twitched in discomfort.

The one thing that she hated was that the emergency site-to-site transport did not always include everyone involved. She had only now made it from the Phaser Range to Sickbay. "He shot himself with a training phaser, level three stun, point-blank range," she started. Jex saw that the medical team worked quickly and seemed to be wrapping up their treatment. "How is he?"

"Well, I am ready to wake him now," Sandy didn't really know what to say. Was she suppose to write the security on report for being a bit reckless. She took out her tricorder and scanned the wound. "Right." She nodded to a nurse and they handed her a hypospray. She put it against the young men's neck and pressed gently. And then she waited, for it to take it's effect.

The young man stirred and opened his eyes, grimacing as he felt utterly uncomfortable. "Where am I?" he asked groggily.

Sandy stood over him. "Hey, crewman, it's alright, you are in sickbay. Just take it easy. You had an accident, but I got you almost fixed up. But you took quite a blow there." He

"Oh..." He closed his eyes for a moment. "Yes, I remember. How bad is it?" Stef bit his lower lip. "I feel stupid..."

"Well..." Sandy sighed. "It's bad, for as bad it can get for firing an energy weapon from such a close range on your chest. I can heal your wounds, but you will be sore for some time. And I have to check if you don't have internal damage or anything residual effects." She tapped his shoulder gently. "But you will be fine."

Stef nodded carefully, his eyes traveling to the other woman standing a few feet away. "It is not her fault," he murmured, "I am just..not good with a weapon."

"Shhh," Sandy hushed. "I am not the one passing judgment here, that is not my job. I will leave that between the Lieutenant and the Captain how they resolve this. You just take it easy ok. And don't worry, you will learn, you just have to. Space is a dangerous place. I am not happy as a doctor with the existence of weapons, but I can understand why they are necessary. You just rest now."

Knowing that the Yeoman had probably seen her watching the progression of the medical treatment, Jex decided to speak up. "Crewman, all that we care about right now is your recovery," she started. "How are you feeling?"

"Very sleepy," the young man answered, "uncomfortable, but not in pain. As I just told the doctor, I also feel very...incompetent."

Sandy shook her head. "No, crewman, maybe young and inexperienced, but not incompetent." She smiled to him. "I am sure the lieutenant here can train you to deal with it. Maybe next time start with a weapon that can't fire any discharges, so you get to know the weapon before you learn how to fire it." She looked over to Jex.

"Yes ma'am," the boy murmured, eyes traveling up to the security chief. "I will be alright..." He didn't blame her, this was solely his own fault, he should've checked before firing. "Do I really need to learn?"

"Starfleet's history shows, those who don't use phasers can still be fired upon," Jex replied regretfully. "You don't have to do anything, but I can start you on a holodeck. You would only be practicing with representative fire, not the real thing. We could move up to real phasers once you feel comfortable," Jex offered, hoping the young man wouldn't get too down on himself.

That made sense, so he nodded in agreement. "That is acceptable," he answered logically, "I would feel more comfortable with the idea of not being able to hurt anyone..."

"There you go," said Sandy, smiling warmly. "Now, rest, you need it." She walked away and motioned for the security chief to follow her in to the office.

Stef nodded. "Yes doctor," he replied meekly, "I will try to get some sleep."

Following the doctor, Jex asked, "You wanted to see me?" Her voice was muted so that Stef would be unable to hear even though they were away from the biobed.

"He will be fine," Sandy started, "but you do understand I have to report this to the captain. Make a notation in his record about this." She looked over her shoulder to Stef. "He is young and inexperienced. And emotional unstable, but that's just an observation. What is your observation as security officer?" She asked Jex's opinion.

Jexasi breathed in a bit as she thought about her words. "Young and inexperienced are good words for him. I am also concerned about his attention to detail when his emotions are heightened. He managed to turn the phaser toward himself after I placed him in the proper stance. He was extremely nervous. As a security officer, I would not want him standing between myself and a Klingon, yet."

"I will have to issue a few counseling sessions for our crewman, don't you agree, Lieutenant?" Sandy continued asking.

"I think that will be good for everyone, doctor," Jex responded with a nod of agreement.
