Kel had the yeoman set her bags on the bed in her new quarters. Then she carefully opened the case with her most prized possession - a small jewel-colored fish she kept as a pet. She set his self-contained square aquarium on the desk, so he could keep her company while she filled out reports. She knew that the promotion in rank and her first assignment as a chief counselor meant she'd likely be doing a lot more administrative tasks than she was used to.
Her bags needed unpacking, but her natural curiosity about the ship, its crew and her new captain shoved all that aside. Since she'd barely just arrived, she could have waited a bit to check in, after taking the time to put her quarters in order. But...why wait!
The inquisitive Renna checked her uniform in the mirror, and finding everything in order headed for the bridge. Exiting the turbo lift she was met with equally inquisitive glances from some of the bridge crew, who pointed her to the captain's ready room when she inquired about her whereabouts. She could feel the emotions of the bridge crew; curious but not hostile. Yet, something was also stressing them. There was a tension that was obvious in their body language, much less their emotions. Something had them worried, though she was quite sure it wasn't her.
She pressed the button outside the door to announce her presence, and unconsciously tugged on her uniform again to make sure it was straight. Yes, she was nervous, but she'd just have to get over it. Something wasn't right, and she needed to stay focused. She was sure that her first day on this new assignment wasn't going to be routine, and she was glad she'd come straight-away and not wasted time in her quarters.
