For Whom The Bell Tolls
Location: Captain's Ready Room
574 words - 1.1 OF Standard Post Measure
Dressed impeccably as ever, the Romulan intelligence chief stepped onto the bridge. Instead of logging on to his bridge station however, he crossed down to the command center and approached the commanding officer. "Good morning ma'am, you wanted to see me?"
"Yes, Commander, have a seat. I need to ask a favor of you." Jane went toward the replicator and ordered herself a cup of coffee. "Would you like anything to drink?"
"Coffee please, and perhaps we should move to your office ma'am?" Being a man of many secrets, he felt if this was sensitive, it probably shouldn't be discussed in front of everyone. Especially since he had no idea what this was going to be about.
Jane gestured for the door to her ready room. Once they were inside. Jane handed him the mug of coffee. "Lieutenant Jex has decided to cut back on her work hours for personal reasons, she's taking a leave of absence and I wondered if you would be interested in taking a security position instead of intel?"
"If you feel that my services and skills are best used in that position then I'll be happy to take up that position ma'am. I do have the necessary training I believe." His weapons skills were sufficient even if his proficiency with a rifle was better than with a hand phaser.
"Excellent. There might be some crossover between positions though we do have another intelligence officer on board. I would greatly appreciate your insight, especially for our next mission. We will be headed to Claddin Prime shortly after the vow renewal ceremony. We'll have a briefing later with the details."
The Romulan officer nodded and smiled. "I'll be sure to wear the correct uniform then," he promised, "colour wise I mean. Meanwhile, you may want to consider Miss T'Par for the chief position, should she desire it."
"I have, but I haven't made a decision yet on that." She gave Lhaes a smile. "How are your little ones? Hopefully none of them came down with the illness?" Jane changed topics, she was pretty much finished with the conversation but it seemed like the thing to do, check in and see how her officer was doing.
"None of us came down with it thankfully. I've heard that some patients were really ill from it. I haven't yet been able to see the reports though, after all patient files are confidential and even I won't breach that confidence. Not even while I'm medically trained myself." He smiled. "They're very resilient ma'am, but no thankfully they weren't ill. I'm not sure I could've handled three sick children...one is bad enough."
Jane nodded, "Thankful for small miracles. Well, in the end we were able to find the cause and get our people back to full health and our away team was returned to us. Seems like we owe the universe a bit thank you. Maybe someday it will collect." She gave him a little bit of a wink. "I should get back to work. Thank you for stopping by."
"Any time ma'am. I'll go get changed and explore my new office." He smiled as he said it. "Thank you for the coffee."
"You're very welcome." Jane stood up to see him out. When he'd left Jane sighed and leaned against the wall for a moment hoping that she'd made the right decision.
