'It's only when a colleague needs urgent help that technology we take for granted doesn't move quickly enough for you.' Ensign Akhtar thought to himself as he rode the Turbolift to deck 4. A few moments ago he had received an emergency activation from Lt Lawless' comm badge on deck 4, some kind of medical emergency but the officer was now unresponsive and they didn't know the nature of the emergency. The protocol recommended that security also attend to preserve life and limb and secure the scene in the case of any criminal acts.

Akhtar was also trained in first aid so he was the logical choice to respond. The turbo lift slowed to a halt and Akhtar felt an overwhelming feeling of dread as he approached the scene. He didn't know the Lieutenant very well but he was a colleague and that meant he was part of the family.

The doors to the Turbolift hissed open and Akhtar made the dash along the corridor to the junior officers' quarters, his phaser was at the ready but he did not expect to need it. None the less he was constantly considering the situation and applying contingency plans for whatever he might face when he got there.

He turned the next corner and could see the door at the far end of the corridor, just as the medical staff also approached from the opposite direction.

Alerted by the call, Sekat and a few nurses had made their way over to the junior officer's quarters as fast as his limp would allow him to. The cadence of the quick step-tap was echoing through the corridor as the disabled Vulcan doctor hurried along. "Report," he said, as he crouched down beside the unconscious officer. "What happened?"

Ahktar acknowledged the Lieutenant lying lifeless at the foot of his bunk, however his most pressing concern was securing the cabin against potential threats. He was not numb to emotion, a colleague was injured and in a bad way but he was trained on how to deal with situations like this, and he knew that if the roles were reversed that the Lieutenant would be doing the same.

"The cabin is secure," he declared - sheathing his phaser before moving in to assist the doctor. "Your guess is as good as mine sir, I heard the emergency call and rushed right up here," he replied whilst helping with moving Lt Lawless onto his back.

Grimacing as he shifted, lying his cane beside him, Sekat leaned forward to examine the stricken officer. He looked up as the security chief arrived on the scene. "Injured officer, cause unknown," he reported.

Lhaes nodded as he looked to Ahktar. "Tell me exactly how you were called, and what you walked into. Was he conscious when you arrived?"

"There was just an emergency call from his com-badge, I heard the call and made my way right here. On arrival, he was exactly as he is now." Ahktar replied, "It couldn't have taken me more than three minutes to get from deck nine to here, and the room was locked when I arrived"

"We should move him to sickbay," Sekat reported, while crawling back to his feet. "Immediately, there I can treat him and we can wake him so he can tell you what happened."

Lhaes nodded. "That is the wises course of action. I will come with you." He turned towards his security officer. "Secure this room and check it for anomalies. Strange things have been happening on this vessel. And alert the captain, she may want to be informed too."

"Right away!" Ahktar replied as he tapped his com-badge "Transporter room, Transport the Doctor and Lieutenants Sommers and Lawless to sickbay... Medical Priority!" he paused a moment watching his colleagues' molecules de-materialize before activating his communicator again, "Security to Bridge, please inform the captain that we have a medical emergency in sickbay, Her presence may be required"

Ahktar received the acknowledgment before retrieving his tricorder and setting his scan parameters, "Computer, erect a Level seven force field around these quarters and restrict access to security personnel and level 6 clearance or above"
A confirming bleep followed from the computer as Ahktar continued to scan the room as ordered.
