Mission: End of Line
920 words - 1.8 OF Standard Post Measure

Cinth frowned as she looked at the panel on the wall. She hated reporting to her superior officer. They were the most bring meetings in the world and as she suspected she'd only gotten this job because she was Jane's cousin, was it really necessary? She'd probably get written up if she didn't go though. Not having a made an appointment she walked to the Chief of Security's office only to find him gone to the station on a bit of shoreleave. Suited her fine, she could track him down there and have a bit of fun doing it. The red haired woman headed for the airlock with a bit of a skip in her step.

Lhaes turned at the sound of approaching steps. He was just about to join his family on the station when he was approached. A lovely redhead approached at a fairly quick pace, beelining straight for him. All but literally sensing she was coming for him, he stopped walking and waited, thereby pretty much blocking the entrance to the airlock.

"Reporting to the Majestic as ordered sir." She handed him the PADD. "You weren't in your office so I tracked you down and honestly I didn't mind getting to explore the station a bit. It beats an interview in a stuffy shipboard office. Oh," Hyacinth paused. "Lieutenant Faust sir," she made a gesture that might have been a salute, if a lazy one.

"Uhm..." Lhaes frowned though he accepted the PADD. "You could've reported in with any of the security officers while I'm off duty," he said as he quickly scanned the contents of the PADD, then added his thumbprint to approve it. "Lieutenant Commander Lhaes Sommers," he replied, giving his own name even though he was sure she already knew it. "Even so... do you make a habit of following officers when they're not where you expect them to be?"

"Maybe, but it gave me an excuse to see the station. And no, not generally, though I Do like to be where the action is. If that means following someone," she shrugged. "Then so be it."

"Barring a handful, everyone is moving to the station for some holiday time." Lhaes gave her a smile that was contrary to his earlier cold response. "I don't think there's much action to be had unless you make some of your own at the moment." He gestured towards the hatch. "Unless you want to go and get settled in first, and report in to the captain, I recommend taking the opportunity to explore the station."

"Oh I intend to. Besides, I'm told the Captain is over here as well and it's been years since I've seen her." Cinth paused, staring off into space as she thought about that and the fact that she was pretty sure that Jane pulled some strings to get her on the Majestic. She was family after all. "Uh, anyway, I'll find her and I'll explore the station."

That statement made him turn to give her a closer look. Really studying her for a moment. "You are related to Jane," he finally realized, "you are family."

"Cousin," Cinth said glancing at him again. "We're not close though, she's older than me and I think the whole time we were growing up we were only together a couple of times. Family fight between siblings I think, her father, my mother. No one likes to talk about it though." She shrugged. "Care to join me for lunch?"

Cousin. Of course. "I think, you should join me and my family," he proposed instead, realizing she hadn't understood the severity of his conclusion. "there seems to be much to talk about..." He gestured her through the airlock and followed close on her heels. "I'm sure Beatrice will be very happy to see you."

Cinth seemed to bite her lip. She wasn't so sure about that. "I guess so . . . okay," She gave a determined nod though she had no idea how her aunt would receive her. "Lead the way."

"Why the hesitation?" He turned his head to look at her as he led the way. "Are you and Beatrice not close?" He gave her a curious look. "I will admit she doesn't speak about her family much, but she knows how much it means to me."

"Not exactly. Been a long time since I've seen her to be honest. I heard she remarried though. Good for her. Technically I'm not actually related to her by blood, only Jane's dad."

The Romulan chuckled. "Yes she remarried... she's my wife." He wasn't sure how the young woman would take that news so he held out a hand to steady her, just in case. "So, my argument of you being family is still somewhat valid, as technically speaking my marriage to Beatrice makes Jane my stepdaughter." He cringed at that, as somehow that just felt very wrong, and he didn't think of his captain in such a way at all. It was, to him, a matter of respect not to.

Hyacinth didn't miss that on him, though she didn't actually know that this was the man Beatrice had married. "Oh, well then, Family by marriage twice removed. Or something like that. I cannot refuse to have dinner with you and her then." She smiled slightly though she was nervous about this visit and about her time on Majestic since she was serving with family, however distant. "Lead the way."

"No, you cannot refuse," Lhaes smiled as he led her to his family.
