DNA never lies

Lhaes stared at the photographs sat on his desk in his quarters. The children were long since asleep but for some reason he couldn't.

"It's been a long time since I heard anything from Katara. Galan is now almost two years old. She abandoned us when he was a baby, presumably to have been recalled to what's left of the empire."

He paused, picking up the photo of a pretty Romulan female. One of the very few pictures she'd ever allowed him to take.

"I don't know if it's duty, or perhaps shame, that she doesn't contact me. After all what she did was unforgivable, even if I chose to give her a home."

Lhaes sighed, setting the picture back down.

"I remember her telling me she stole my DNA. She wanted assurances and a better chance at a safe haven in the Federation. She extracted DNA from me, and somehow impregnated herself with it. While I'm a doctor myself, the actual technicality of such an act, beyond the natural way, is beyond me. Even so, she got pregnant, and I gave her a home."

His eyes went to a picture of three smiling children. A plumpy boy with clear Romulan features, and two slim black-haired girls whose features were more Vulcan than Romulan.

"I have no doubt whatsoever that Galan is my son, DNA doesn't lie. But I worry about his mother, she's Tal Shiar and she knows how to disappear. I just hope wherever she is, that she's happy, and safe. meanwhile, I do my best to keep our child safe."

He yawned. "I should try and get some sleep too. End log."
