"Svara?" Stef walked into the bedroom, smiling as he reached down to help his very pregnant wife up to her feet. "How are you feeling today? Is the baby still kicking you so much?" As he helped her stand, he briefly studied her, noting how radiant she looked even if she had indicated a few times now she felt like a whale.

He placed his hand over her abdomen, a happy look on his face. "How long now?" He had no idea how long her gestation would be, given that a Vulcan's was longer than a Human's, and Svara was not Human, she was Mardran.

"Baby will come when baby is ready," Svara leaned in and gave Stef a kiss on the cheek. "This one's going to be a marathon runner, I think. Running and kicking all night long." She smiled warily, knowing it was a good sign of a healthy baby, but the tiredness was getting to her.

"We shouldn't put off the name talk much longer," she told him, squeezing his hand and waddling as she walked to the other room to use the restroom. "What about T'Sara, after your sister, if it's a girl? Last night I had a dream that I met her."

"You dreamed of my sister?" Both eyebrows Rose in surprise at that, but he smiled all the same. "I like that suggestion, very much," he added, but what if it is a boy? Name him after a male member in your family?"

"I did, I always have strange dreams when I cuddle up with you at night," Svara said as she came back out from the bathroom a few minutes later. "Male names from my side of the family. Let's see... there's my dad, Jael, grandfather Alecx, favorite uncles Larrence and Sylas..."

Vulcan custom would have him choose the 'S' name however he conceded that the child would only be half Vulcan. " How about Alecx, after your grandfather?" He suggested. "Was he not a doctor, like yourself?" He offered her his arm to guide her to the living room, barely letting her out of his sight for.long these last days.

"Yes, he was. It's a shame you never got to meet him. He liked animals a lot, like you. You could have talked for hours and hours with him," Svara sat down on the edge of the bed. "I like Alecx. It's a good name," she smiled.

"T'Sara if it is a girl, Alecx if it is a boy," Stef agreed. "Would you like me to get you something to eat? You should not exert yourself, you tire so easily these days" Knowing that the time was near, Stef had rearranged his working hours to be with her as much as possible.

"You're sweet, but I promised them I would walk to the office this morning to look over charts," Svara replied. "Though a wouldn't object to a slice of toast." She looked up and gave him a smile.

"You should not be working at this stage of your pregnancy," Stef objected as he made her breakfast. "But if you insist, I will walk with you." After all he had taken time off to be with her.

Hours later, Stef sat on the edge of the bed, holding two tiny infants instead of the expected one. He looked pale and exhausted, tears making tracks down his face as a quickly called nurse covered up the body of his wife. Where she had successfully deliverd their children, unfortunately Svara had lost too much blood in the process. She lived long enough to see their children but soon after expelled her last breath.

He pulled the infants to his chest, holding them to him as if his life depended on it. "I will protect you," he whispered, his voice cracking with grief. "I will not forget your mother, you will know what a wonderful woman she was."
