Mission: The Fool's Odyssey
Location: Arcana Lounge/Bar
559 words - 1.1 OF Standard Post Measure

Jane found her usual spot by the windows in the lounge. The preferred small table, it was out of the way and people were less likely to feel intimidated by her presence though she thought that idea funny. Younger officers often didn’t like associating with Captains. It made them nervous. She ordered herself some sparkling wine, just for purely celebratory purposes. Not because she believed she deserved it, but because Hak would tell her she did.

Tuka was feeling rather somber. He hadn’t yet been able to check in with his superior, and without a proper introduction to his new fellow crewmen to boot, he didn’t know anyone aboard. “Perhaps a drink” he thought to himself. He accesses a nearby panel and discovered there was indeed a lounge aboard. “Thank you Captain…” he mused. Though a Captain did have purview over such amenities, he had only heard rumors of those who held sway over them as if gripped by a golden gauntlet. Now, Ferengi captains, that was another can of worms…

“Well, here I am” he gleefully said to no one as the doors swished open. With a jaunty step, he strode into the lounge. Peering about the space, he looked for the most secluded spot, and froze… there, it, was. Occupied, by, the, captain.

Jane glanced up at the sound of the doors. As she was nearly the only one in the room the sound seemed extra loud tonight. The only Ferengi officer on board the ship glanced in her direction and she gave him a single nod. It would be rude to pretend that she hadn’t seen him at all and now that they had locked eyes she felt it was necessary to invite him over. “Would you like to join me lieutenant?” She called after him.

Tuka gulped. His collar felt a little tight and he gave it a tug. “Uhm, yes, yes sir.” Quickly regaining his composure, to his own surprise, he nodded toward the bar “What are you drinking captain?” he asked grinning.

“It’s Prosecco, a sparkling wine that is made on Earth. Of course this is just replicated I’m sure but it still tastes acceptable.” Privately she wondered what Ferengi drank. As she’d never been around one there was a lot about them she didn’t know but she had a feeling she was about to find out.

“One, Proseckoh.” he repeated to the bartender. Interesting, he thought to himself, continuing to address her.. “Please…”

He walked over to the table with the fizzing drink and took a seat across from the captain. Still in his hand, he held up against light. “Interesting, is it like the famous Earth drink from the region of France, known as Champagne?” He wittily let slide out, with a very very bad french accent he learned from watching ancient Earth noir movies. Oh how he adored them!

“Very similar,” Jane was impressed. “I’ve heard the drink was originally made in Italy though I don’t know exactly where. Honestly I rarely drink normally. But this hiccup in our mission has me needing a bit of self-care.” She smiled at him again and looked out the window wondering if a Ferengi would even know what self care was.
