382 words - 0.8 OF Standard Post Measure
Jane rocked back and forth from her toes to her heels. She took a deep breath, looked at the transporter chief and said, "Energize." Two forms appeared before her. "Hi mom, dad." She said, trying to sound more enthusiastic than she felt. It wasn't that she wasn't happy to see them, she just dreaded both of them causing an issue with their constant bickering.
Her mom stepped off the transporter pad first and encircled Jane with a hug. "Jane," she said enthusiastically. "You look overworked, when was the last time you had a vacation?"
"Nice to see you too mom, last time I took a vacation I ended up getting kidnapped and then married, those two events are not related to each other. I think I prefer work, it's more relaxing."
Alta moved forward to hug her next. "Hey Janie, Nice ship you got here."
"Thanks," she said with a small smile on her face. "I plan on giving you the grand tour but I thought you might want to see your quarters first. Course with Hak's mom on board, guest quarters are a little cramped, but I found you two places of equal size. You should be comfortable."
"I'm sure we'll be fine. Better than being stuck in a matchbox with this old bat." He teased.
Jane raised her eyebrows but Bebe looked at her ex husband like she considered that a challenge rather than an insult.
"How is Hak?" Bebe asked, "Why isn't he here to greet us?"
"I think he and his mom had a few things to work out, it had been a while since they'd seen each other." Jane had already been in their presence and had experienced a small part of that. She felt they needed to work things out and she didn't need to be there for that to happen.
"Aren't families fun?" Alta snorted lightly. "Come on Jane girl, show me what you've got here. Tour first, quarters later." He wrapped an arm around his daughter and led her toward the double doors. Bebe remained behind, she had better things to do and rubbed her hands together gleefully. At least, freedom.
