"Did you see that this morning?" Petty Officer Rosa Wells leaned over to her colleague, while guarding her cup of coffee.
"See what?" Crewman Hannah Crow whispered back, while tucking a strand of curly blonde hair back behind her ear.
Rosa smiled at her friend and colleague. They were both young, inexperienced and fairly new on board the Majestic. "You know that handsome chief of ours? The one all the girls in the department seem to swoon over? Well, I heard from Lily back in science that he's been seen with the captain's mother..."
"No!" Hannah exclaimed in mock shock, while keeping her voice down to a whisper. "Really?"
Rosa nodded. "Oh yes, and I saw him in the corridor with her myself only a few hours before. I mean...she's a gorgeous woman but isn't she a bit old? I mean even the captain is older right?"
"He does strike me as young but who's to tell with Vulcans? Come to think of it, isn't he a little emotional for a Vulcan?" Hannah frowned as she considered her own words. "Reckon he's a hybrid?"
The other woman shook her head, blonde curls bouncing across her shoulders as she did so. "No I don't think he is... I heard he's Romulan. Still, I heard he's got small kids too, so I doubt the captain would want step siblings that could be her own kids right? I mean, she's just gotten married herself, and I'm sure she'll be knocked up in no time too. I mean that's the whole purpose of marriage right?"
Hannah burst into laughter. "You've got a quaint concept of marriage there Rose... I mean.. how many single parents are there on this ship you think?" She paused, taking a sip from her drink. "Either way, who are we to judge right? What if they're in love?"
"They must be... I must've missed it as I passed them but Gregory.. you know the tall bloke from operations... I've heard that he's heard that the chief proposed to her. He didn't hear the answer I've heard but now I'm super curious."
Grinning now, Hannah almost choked on her tea. "Oh...that'll be something then. Oh man I would've loved to chat further but my break is over. See you later?"
Rosa nodded, finishing her own drink. "Yeah...I gotta get back to work too..."
