Shev had just met his CO, and the ships resident intelligence officer. Such was the life of an executive officer with duties and such. However, he was familiar with an old Terran saying. It referred to "work" and "play" and a guy named jack. He chuckled. I'll translate it into andorian later he thought as he walked along. He had no clear plan so he just wandered along, humming a tune from a Andorian musical he knew.

Eventually he found the lounge. Which appealed to him. A chance to take off his CO hat for a while. He went on in and plopped into a rather comfortable chair.

The red-haired chief engineer had been sitting at the bar for a bit already, reviewing personnel rosters in his department and pushing away emotions with alcohol. He'd fully embraced the warmth and numbness of the third drink and had just turned off the PADD when he spotted the Andorian executive officer sitting out, watching the starfield beyond the dock and he got up to join him.

"I don't think we've met yet," the engineer summoned as much sobriety as he could manage to sound not entirely inebriated. "Lieutenant Murphy, Chief Engineer," he said, motioning to the open chair next to him. "Mind if I join you?"

"Not at all." Shev said. "Commander Th''aziavak. Shev" he said, motioning to another chair.

"Shev," Murphy nodded and dropped into the plush seat, "People just call me Murph. You finding the ship and everything up to par, sir?"

"Got no complaints so far." Shev smiled.

"Good," Murph said decidedly. "She's a good ship. We're still waiting for some engineering transfers to arrive, but we're on schedule."

"Great to hear." Shev said.

Murphy let the conversation fall into an awkward silence for a moment, his gaze wandered out the viewports to the stars where it lingered as though trying to figure out a pattern to the universe. "So..." he eventually said. "First time as executive officer?"

Shevs antenna perked up. "Oh, yeah. First time in red too. Most of the time my uniform matched my skin color." he laughed. "Started as science officer Andorian nobody." he grinned.

"Well, I'm sure you'll do great. Have you served with Commander Saulitis before?" Murphy asked.

"Just met her recently to be honest. Have you?" he asked, genuinely interested

Murphy nodded silently as he stared out into the stars. "I haven't. Just met her when she landed for a few minutes. She seems... nice." Nice didn't seem like a great attribute for a starship captain and he wished he could have lauded her with something more impressive like gallant, strong, or courageous. Not that she wasn't those things, he just didn't know. "I've heard good things, though. I've got an old academy roommate who served with her on the Achilles. He's got nothing bad to say and he's a pretty critical guy, so that's something..."

"Yeah. All I've ever heard was that she used to be a pilot. So you're one up on me." he laughed. "But I was in a lab most of the time. Easy to get behind." he nodded. "Tell me about yourself?"

"Myself?" Murphy swirled the amber liquid around in his glass and let out a sigh as he shook his head. "I'm an open book, sir. Just a guy who makes things go. Served on the Indiana, before that, the Black Prince, and before that, at the Mars fleetyards. You're a scientist, then? What area of specialty?"

"A little of everything." he said. "But If had to nail down a specialty, Id most likely be biology. Just could focus in my lab with three or four others." he nodded. "Whatever away teams found, and all that jazz.'

"Interesting." Murphy nodded, tipped back the remainder of his drink and sighed. "Well, it's been uh... nice talking to you, Commander. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to let me know." He didn't know what else to say, so he stood up and nodded before walking away.
