Due the busy day yesterday, she now had a few hours for herself. Time for a little treat. She walked to the replicators and ordered, "Dutch poffertjes with powdered sugar. 1 portion." The computer beeped and produced a portion of the delicacy. It wasn't like her grandmother made them, but still very good.
Jane was hungry, sometimes she forgot to eat if she didn't stick to a schedule. And the past two days had not been on any sort of set schedule. She's spent her time reading up on crew service records, touring the ship and helping out where people would allow her. As she walked by sickbay her nose caught the scent of something wonderful and her body turned and headed in that direction before she realized what was going on.
Shev was walking along, whistling a tune. Such was his custom when he didn't have that much to do. Which today was just one of those occasions. And he went along like that until he caught a whiff of something he'd never smelled before. He just had to follow it.
Sandy had just put a fork with one of the delights in her mouth when two people walked in. She noticed their uniform and ranks and dropped her fork and got up from her desk. She walked out of her office in to sickbay. "Captain, Commander, I wasn't expecting anyone. What can I do for you?" She asked.
Jane looked behind her, not realizing that she wasn't the only one who had followed her nose. She smiled. "Oh at ease, I think we'd like to know what that wonderful smell is? I'm surprised you don't have more people just stopping in."
"Took the words right out of my mouth." The Andorian said. "I was walking along and caught a whiff. Just had to investigate."
"Oh," said Sandy, "Do you mean this?" She walked back in to her office and took the plate with poffertjes from her desk and showed it to them. "It's called poffertjes, a Dutch treat. If you like, I could replicate you some. It may not be the same as my grandmother makes them, but they are still good." She offered as she walked to the replicator.
"What are they made from?" Jane asked, usually shy about eating in public she wasn't going to say no to something that smelled this wonderful and it was just the three of them.
"They're fluffy mini pancakes with powdered sugar." She smiled as she went to the replicator to get two more plates. She handed them to the commander and the captain. "Oh try it. It's nice!"
"Thank you," Jane said, looking down at the surprise in front of her. "Lools delicious, When in Rome," she replied and started taking a bite before she'd even sat down on one of the bio beds.
Shev nodded his thanks as he sat at a nearby desk. His antenna sprang up as he began to eat. "Thes are very tasty, Doctor." he said
"Oh very clever!" A thought had suddenly occured to Jane. "This is how you get the command staff in for their physicals isn't it?" She smiled. "I don't believe we've had the pleasure. I'm Jane Saulitis and I assure you I'm in perfect health."
Sandy grinned and nodded. "Maybe. Lieutenant Junior Sandra Adamson, but doctor will do. And let me be the judge of your physical health, captain, that is why I was assigned here, right?" She took out a tricord and did a scan of the captain while she was eating. She then looked on the tricorder. "Well, unless there is something I should know, you are as healthy as you say you are. See you in 6 months."
She then walked over to Shev. "Commander," She nodded to him as she started to scan him. "No problems here either. Have you both been sleeping?"
"Less than I would like with a new ship to get up and running. But I think once we leave and things settle down and I get used to my quarters that will improve."
Sandy nodded to the captain. " Yes, captain, I understand. But I do think you should get as much rest as possible. You too commander."
"Whatever the Doctor says." Shev said. "I'm used to little sleep though. But could always use more."
"I'm sure that's nearly true of everyone but I will try to go to bed a few minutes early." Jane finished her meal rather quickly. "I should be getting back to work, but thank you for the meal and the impromptu physical." She smiled slightly at the woman's possible devious act of getting both of them in for a quick scan.
Sandy nodded to Jane. "Anytime, Captain, shall I pass the recipe along to your chef? I am sure he would love to make it for you sometimes," She offered with a smile.
Jane sighed, "I'm going to need a new exercise regime with this new chef, but go ahead. Why not?"
Sandy turned to the first officer. "How are the sweets, Commander?" She asked.
"Very good indeed." Shev said.
"Very good," Said Sandy. "Well I got nothing more. You may go, Captain, Commander."
