As the nurse called out to the doctor, she saw the panicking Chef on the bio bed. Sandy rushed over and gently took his arm. "It's ok, Patrick, we will find Murphy." She turned over to Sekat. "How is that emergency medical team coming along. I send them to Engineering, have they arrived. And any report from the bridge?"

"No ma'am, no answer from the bridge. And there have been no reports from the team sent to engineering," the Vulcan doctor replied calmly, stepping aside to give his boss some room. "But I will remain hopeful that they did arrive."

Sandy held up her medical tricorder and scanned Patrick. "You have a dislocated shoulder, and your left side ribs are cracked." She knew Patrick was scared of doctors. She took his hands. "Patrick, look at me. We will find Murphy, but you are in need of medical care now. I need you to trust me that I will fix you. That's what I do. And doctor Sekat will find Murphy." Sandy hoped that would calm him down.

Patrick was trembling all over, part in fear and part because he was cold due to being only partially dressed. "Please find him," he whispered, allowing the medical woman to touch him. "He was supposed to meet me later...he won't know where I am now.." He looked up at her, fear in his eyes. "I don't know what happened..." He sat stiffly, even though he really felt he should lie down.

"Doctor Sekat, could you get a blanket." She took a hypospray. "Ok, Patrick, don't you worry, we will find out what has happened. And where Murpy is. And when we find him we will make sure he gets here. Now you need to rest." She gently pushed him down as she put the hypospray to his neck and sedated him.

"Of course," the Vulcan replied, bringing the requested item over, then draped it over the now unconscious form of the chef. "I sense a lot of distress coming from him," he reported, "how bad is it? Perhaps I should find him some clothes? Unless you require my assistance?"

Sandy took out a tricorder. "It doesn't appear any of his main internal organs were damaged. No internal bleeding, so I think he will be fine. I have to set his shoulder and try to repair the damaged ribs. He won't be standing or walking for a while." She put the tricorder away. She turned to Sekat. "Yes, get him some clothes, I think he would like that. Take a medkit and see if you can give medical care on the way. And maybe find out what happened." She turned around to start Patrick's treatment. She wanted to keep Sekat close by, but he is a doctor and this looked like all able personnel was needed. "Please be careful, Sekat. I don't want you on a biobed here for the same reason as our chef."

"Oh I was not intending on leaving sickbay doctor," Sekat answered, smiling ever so slightly at her concern for him. "But I could go by his quarters to get him clothes, rather than a sickbay surgical garb. "

More than anything she would have wanted him to stay. Then she had an idea. She handed him the medical tools she was holding. "You take care of mr. O'Malley. I'll get him clothes and see who I can help there. You're in charge of sickbay now, until I return." She grabbed a medkit. "I will also try and get in touch with the bridge and engineering, see if I can get a report on the situation and find Lieutenant Murphy. I don't think you'd be much help out there with your leg. No offense." She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. "I'll try not be long and you try not to break my sickbay."

Sekat wanted to protest but she was gone before he could say anything. He turned the patient, tending to his injuries while causing him as little discomfort as possible. Fortunately the young man was sedated to the degree he should not be in any discomfort. All the while he hoped that his boss would be alright.

It wasn't long after Kav was brought in by two medical officers. He had been phasing in and out of consciousness. The medical officers put him on a bio bed. As he opened his eyes looking at the ceiling. He put up his hand looking at it. He then put his hand on his head. "What has happened?" He called out. He was really confused and wasn't really sure what was going on. "Mother, why is the room spinning?" He asked. "Mother..." Everything went black again before his eyes.

Making sure Patrick was comfortable, Sekat headed over to the new arrival. "Kav?" He asked, gently shaking him to get his attention. "What happened," he demanded of the two officers who had brought him in.

Kav looked up as the he saw Doctor Sekat slowly appear. "Doctor...there was an explosion...we did not see it coming...engines are down...reading all stop, sir." He said. He then looked around sickbay disoriented and asked, "Why am I in sickbay? What happened?"

"You were sent here by Doctor Sommers," Sekat explained, "according to the officers who brought you in, you have hit your head." He gently pushed the man down onto the bed. "Easy, we will take care of you. You are clearly disoriented... you must rest now Kav. You will feel better in a few hours."

Kav lay down. "Very well, doctor, but can you ask lieutenant Murphy to make the room stop spinning?" He put his hands on his face. "Who is piloting the ship?" He rubbed his eyes. "I have to go back to the bridge, I must fly. We must get out of here." He tried to get off the biobed.

Sekat pushed him down again. "I do not know who is flying however as far as I know the ship is dead in space so no pilot is needed. There was an explosion in engineering, we are not going anywhere." He spread his fingers as he pressed his hand against the injured man's chest. "I suggest you get some rest."

Kave fell back on the bed. "Doctor, I..." He felt exhausted suddenly, so exhausted he stopped arguing and closed his eyes. He took a deep breath and fell asleep.

A few minutes later Sandy walked back in. She put her med kit away and held up the clothes from Patrick's room. "Someone needs some fashion advice, but he is a chef and I am doctor." She grinned and then continued. "Looks like the medical team is doing their work. There are some injured on the way, but luckily nothing serious. Well nothing as serious as our chef here." Then she saw Kav on the bio bed. "What's wrong with him?"

"He was brought in from the bridge." Relief seemed to flit across the Vulcan doctor's face upon her safe return. "He seems to have hit his head and is under the distinct impression we will allow him to return to his post." He glanced back at the now peacefully sleeping patient. "I suggested he take some rest and he promptly fell asleep."

"Well, at least he is still sensitive for logic," Sandy giggled and handed him Patrick's clothes. "You go get our other patient dressed, while I take care of Lieutenant Kav." She walked over to the bio bed and started to scan him. "He's cut a small cut on his head, and a concussion. He'll be fine, he just needs some time to recover from the blow."

"I believe I just concluded the same," Sekat chuckled, turning to tend to his other sleeping patient. "Would you like some coffee?" He asked once he got Patrick dressed and comfortable again.

"Yes you did. I am sorry, I didn't mean to question your diagnosis." She put the tricorder away. "Coffee would be great. I like mine with extra sugar and milk please." She smiled.

"I know." He beckoned her as she put her tricorder away. "In your office," he added, "you need a break too."

She walked to her office and slowly slumped down in to her chair with a sigh, "What a day." She watched as Sekat sat down across from her and put a cup of coffee on her desk. "Thank you!" She said sighing satisfied. She really needed that.

Nursing his tea, Sekat glanced at her over the edge of his mug. "That bad?" he asked, twirling the liquid in the mug around, "you did great Sandy. You deserved some rest."

"I know," she said with a sigh. She looked to him as she moved the cup to her lips. "You know, you're trained and prepared to this in the academy with simulations and all. But then it really happens. So tell me, will it get easier? Or will it get harder each time?"

"I do not believe it will get harder, and though it does get easier one has to be careful not to lose sight of reality. That you do not become immune to the hardships. A doctor's strength is their passion, and their humanity if you will. Their need to care." He sipped his tea. "We are doctors, because we care."

"I know," she said and sighed, "I know." She took a sip from her coffee. "I don't think I will ever stop caring. It's still hard. Going through that."

"I speak from personal experience," he reminded her, "I lost my bondmate to illness and there was nothing I could do. I have never felt so helpless in my life."

She nodded. "I know that. I'm just asking. I worked in a hospital, but never really lost some one so close." She sipped her coffee staring in front of her.

"Hey..." He drew her attention, reaching to caress her cheek with the back of his hand. "You will not lose anyone," he promised her, "and I have no intention of going anywhere."

She smiled and put her hand on his hand. "Thank you, Sekat." She held his hand on her cheek as she kept gazing to him.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" Her scrutiny was unusual, and it made him feel a little awkward. "Have I done something wrong?"

"Oh sorry," She quickly put her cup to her lips and looked away. She swallowed some coffee and then said, "No, you're fine...I mean nothing is wrong. I just had...it's nothing really." She was stammering now to try to talk this right.

"had what?" he encouraged, leaning forward. "What is it?"

"I had..." She put her cup back down. "I had a moment. I felt like gazing at you. Sorry it made you feel uncomfortable. I didn't mean to." She explained.

"I know. I am not used to being scrutinized." He gave her an uncertain smile. "As you are aware it has been quite some time I had female attention. I already indicated I would like to spend more time with you, had I not?" In truth, he actually couldn't remember if he had.

"Yes, you have, I am sorry," Sandy said and continued, "But I am still human, but maybe you should help me control my emotions." She grinned. She then sighed deeply. "Right, duty calls."

"I do not wish for you to control them, they make you who you are." Draining the content of his mug, he set it aside then stood. "Yes, duty calls."

Sandy stood up too and they walked back in to sickbay.
