Beata dawdled outside sickbay. It was silly, she was being ridiculous. She was sure the doctor dealt with this every day and there was nothing she should be embarrassed about. Gathering up her strength she came through the doors and looked around for Dr. Adamson. "Doctor, can I talk to you for a minute?" She whispered quietly coming up behind the woman.

Sandy was looking at a padd when she heard a small whispering voice behind her. She put the padd down and turned to look at the young brunette woman. "Of course, miss...." She was thinking really hard if she new the young woman. But she had seen so many files, it escaped her. Or maybe she had remembered, but but couldn't put a name to the face. She smiled. "How can I help you?"

Blushing Beata managed to get out, "I have a new boyfriend and well . . . I was wondering about birth control, just in case. Not that we're physical yet. He's Vulcan, I don't even know how that works. I mean of course I know how that works but I don't know how easy it is to get pregnant or if he's even interested in that." She sucked in a breath quickly, her face completely red.

"Ok, I get it, get in to my office for a bit of privacy," Sandy said quickly gesturing her in to the office and offered her a seat for her to sit down. "Would you like something to drink, maybe?"

"No, thanks." Beata shook her head a little too hard, giving herself a bit of a neck twinge. "We've only kissed and well technically we shared a bed but it was just cuddling and sleeping. He doesn't follow the teachings of Surak, does that mean he only needs to mate every seven years or do Vulcans who don't suppress their emotions mate whenever they feel like it? I'm confused."

Sandy sat down and chuckled a bit. "The Pon farr is not a Vulcan festival that returns every seven years. Also it isn't an indication they are fertile every seven years. Pon farr is a natural occurrence that happens to Vulcans every seven years which compels them to mate, it's like when human females have their menstrual period every month, only it's not the females that get it, it's also the males, and it occurs once every year. So they have to mate every seven years in order to battle this blood fever or battle someone to the death, whichever works I guess. But that doesn't mean they are incapable the rest of the time. I think this has come from the fact they suppress their emotions for so long. And I am not sure if following the teachings of Surak or not would make a difference in that occurrence. A Vulcan not following the teachings of Surak, would simply allow himself, or herself, to experience his or her emotions. Although I do think the teachings of Surak are more than just how to control your emotions, I think there is a lot more to it than just that. I hope your young friend does realizes that."

She smiled as she continued, "And to answer your next question, I would of course start with birth control. Humans and Vulcans are compatible mates. There are some shots you can take in that. But I would recommend strongly your young friend takes them as well, for it to fully work."

"That's going to be a fun conversation." Beata remarked, still not believing she was having this conversation. "But a necessary one, I know. Thank you doctor, let's do that." She gave a single nod. "And I will talk to my boyfriend."

Sandy smiled as she got up to get a hypospray ready. "Well, do it soon, it is better if you two have this around the same time to be effectively." She put the hypospray to her neck. "There we go. Now this is good for 3 to 6 months. But to be sure, I would come every 3 months."

Beata nodded, "Understood. Thank you doctor. I'm sorry about the . . . delicate subject matter." Beata stood, ready to leave but for some reason her mind stopped her, as if there was something she was forgetting but couldn't quite remember what it was.

"It's alright," said Sandy, "I am a doctor, if I couldn't handle the awkward situation, I wouldn't make much of a doctor." She picked up her padd again and noticed Beata still standing there. "Was there something else, ensign?" She inquired.

"No, I thought I forgot something but since I can't remember what it was, I'm sure it's nothing. Thank you again Doctor." Beata headed toward the doors to sickbay and didn't look back.

Sandy smiled, "Well, if it comes back to you, my office is always open."
