Sandy wasn't happy that the security chief send her to the captain. Meanwhile her patient was in the brig, probably panicking and not getting the rest he needed. She was happy she had send Tarria to counsel her, she knew the Andorian would probably knew by now Stef was in the brig and would go see him. She stood in front of the ready room and pressed the chime.
As soon the captain had called her in, she almost flew through the door and at the captain. "Captain, I would like an explanation as to why my patient was arrested in sickbay? I wasn't consulted and without my official discharge you can't take him." Her face was still flustered red as she inhaled waiting for the captain to answer.
Jane raised her eyebrows at the woman but understood her worries. "Have a seat doctor. Would you like some tea?" It was doubtful that the chief medical officer would be distracted from this particular worry though. Still, Jane was using up whatever little thread of patience she had left.
Sandy took a deep breath before she sat down. "No thank you...no wait, I would like some chamomile tea." Her voice seemed a bit calmer. But she was sticking to her point. This was outrages, this never happened to any of her patient. Once, but they had star fleet security posted outside of the her patients room till he was ready to go. He was officially arrested but not taken until the hospital had released the patient. But it was the one time.
Jane privately thought that was a good choice. Perhaps it would calm her nerves just a bit before they got too deep into this conversation. She passed off a steaming hot cup to the doctor and began the conversation. "I know you are upset that a patient was taken from your sickbay without your approval. Lieutenant Rai was only following my orders. Stef was not in immediate danger medically and can be looked after in the brig where he is being cared for perfectly well. I thought it was important to act and to put away a possible dangerous person before someone else on my ship got hurt."
"Had you consulted me, captain, I would have told you he isn't dangerous or possibly dangerous. Also I can't treat him in the brig." She put her hands around the cup and sighed feeling the warmth in her hands. "I have send miss Sh'ezhinnir to evaluate and talk to him. I hope that is alright." She sighed as she was sunken in thought. "Yes, I am upset and furious. This is not the right protocol. I had to be advised prior before he was removed from sickbay. There are rules and protocols, and you know why. I can understand that you want to protect the ship, but you could have posted security officer in sickbay, where was he going to go? Also the evidence you got is highly circumstantial, he deserved better than to be plucked out of sickbay. That's all I am saying." She looked in to the cup as she smelled the aroma.
"There is quite a bit of evidence against him. I would not have believed it of him either, but I still had to act with what information I had. I've already lost six crew members, I'll not lose another," her voice rose slightly at the end before she checked herself. "If Mr. Stef is cleared, I will be the first person in line offering my apologies and services but until then this is just going to be the way things are. You are welcome to file a formal complaint."
Sandy was feeling she wasn't getting no where with the captain. She had nothing to get him back in sickbay, unless she had strong medical reasons, which she had not at the moment. She sighed. "I will file a complaint then, captain. Meanwhile I have to go to the brig to run a physical on mister Stef. But I have to wait for Miss Sh'enshinnir returns. She is evaluating him now."
"I see," said Jane, feeling disappointed but also completely understanding where the doctor was coming from. "Sandy, its nothing personal," Jane whispered more quietly. "My ship feels like it's falling apart and it literally is in some ways."
"Captain, I can understand, you must do what you must do," Sandy replied. "But you are not alone in this. You have a crew. And what ever happened, you really need to get the facts first. Lieutenant Rai explained he was placed at engineering with the explosive device. She also said you found feathers and Stef takes care of chickens. What else do you have, cause all this really look circumstantial. He could merely be in the wrong place at the wrong time. So you must have some strong evidence, to pull him out of sickbay like that."
"I'm not at liberty to release all the information we have. This is still under investigation Doctor. Stef is safe and will remain so. I'm sorry it came to this, I really am. File your complaint and I'm sure it will be tended to. I really need to get back to work. We are still going to try to make it to the ceremony on Biarl."
Sandy got up. "I will do that and thank you for the tea. I believe I have to go check on a chef before I go check on Stef." She walked to the door. "And, Captain, next time, please consult me before taking my patients from sickbay."
Jane rubbed her face as soon as the doctor was gone. No doubt this decision would come back to haunt her, and even now she worried about its consequences. Where did one draw the line?
