T'Par's office was sparsely decorated. She sat behind her desk, working on her console. PADDs were not left out and were generally only used when the sensitivity of the information they contained required an air gap. A single wall sculpture hung behind the desk, a rather abstract piece of flowing metal directing the eye to a central point from three directions, set against a highly stylized brown backdrop. She found that it helped the flow of the room and to put others at ease. Now, however, her eyes moved over her console as she reread the file of Lieutenant Laural Hawke, the newest addition to the intelligence department. The woman was due to come by momentarily. While T'Par made a point of meeting every new addition in person, Lieutenant Hawke would be one of the most senior and experienced officers and T'Par considered herself particularly fortunate that she was coming aboard Majestic.

Standing outside of T’Par’s Office, Laural straightened up her uniform a little before tapping the door chime to let T’Par know she was there. After reading her file, Laural was rather interested in meeting her superior officer who she saw as a very typical Vulcan with an atypical ambition for an Intelligence Officer, aiming for the Centre chair on a starship.

"Come," T'Par said as she heard the chime.

Stepping inside, Laural stood just inside the door, "Lieutenant Hawke reporting as ordered Ma'am"

T'Par rose and gestured to the chair on the other side of her desk. "Welcome aboard, lieutenant. I expect your expertise will be invaluable."

"I aim to please" Laural replied as she took the offered seat. "I've already taken the liberty of checking out the encryptions on the Majestic's computer system. although they were lacking in some areas, I believe them to be adequate"

"Do you believe you could improve upon them in the areas you found them lacking?" T'Par asked directly.

Laural thought for a moment, "I could, though I believe it could slow down access to the ships computer for most people. the best I could do for now would be to improve the ships firewall. other than that, I think i'd have to coordinate with security, if for anything else not to cause trouble"

T'Par inclined her head. "We need secure communications here in intelligence and they are also needed in tactical and command for classified and otherwise sensitive communications. For ordinary, nonclassified functions, we would not want to impair efficiency."

"what would you recommend than?" Laural asked "i'm not sure what else I can do right now"

"You said you believed you could improve the ship's firewall?" T'Par asked.

Laural though for a moment. She had to think about how to do it without causing a disruption to the ships crew, "I guess it's as good a place as any to start."

"Coordinate with security," T'Par said. "I would also like you to work on decoding encrypted chatter from other powers intercepted by Majestic."

Laural smiled, "that is something you don't have to worry about, I'll have my streams set up in my office by tomorrow. I would like to access your current intel streams though"

"Of course, lieutenant. You're cleared," T'Par said. "Do you have any questions for me?"

"is there anything you can tell me about the crew that I should know? For example, I know the Security Chief is Romulan" Laural asked.

"He is, yes," T'Par confirmed. "The best advice that I can offer there is put aside your expectations of typical Romulan attitudes. He has an aptitude for security and intelligence work common among his species but in many of his mannerisms one can see the influence of his Betazoid upbringing and of his many years working with humans."

Laural smiled, "I think Father would be happy to meet him. what of the captain?"

"I have found the captain to be a woman of good judgment," T'Par noted. "She has a strong connection with her crew."

"a good trait for a captain" Laural said, thinking through any further questions, "I think that is everything, unless you need to know anything further"

"Nothing further, Lieutenant Hawke. Welcome aboard," T'Par repeated as she rose.

Standing up, Laural nodded, "thank you Ma'am"
