Off We Run

Posted on Thu Oct 11th, 2018 @ 11:17pm by Commodore Jane Saulitis & Lieutenant Commander Angus Murphy

Mission: Run Afoul
Location: Bridge, Deck 1
Timeline: MD3- 0500 Hours
433 words - 0.9 OF Standard Post Measure

Jane stepped onto the bridge with somewhat of a unique facial expression. It wasn't a scowl exactly, but she certainly wasn't pleased. A shuddering had been pronounced through the ship and they had dropped out of warp. "Report," she spoke quickly, trying to keep any emotion from her voice.

"We've dropped out of warp Captain," the helmsmen, an Ensign Bowers, responded as Jane descended to her chair.

Jane tried to keep the exasperation from her voice as she answered. "Yes, I know Ensign. But why?"

"Engineering is reporting a problem with the warp core. I wish I could be more specific Captain, but I don't know yet. Whatever it was took them by surprise I believe. The ship initiated the shut down."

=^= Murphy to the bridge. =^= There was a pause as someone opened an internal channel to engineering and the Chief Engineer was displayed on the main screen, behind him what should have been the purring, illuminated warp core column was a completely dark and powerless drive system.

"Go ahead Lieutenant." She wondered briefly if he expected to get the commanding officer when he called.

Rather than tell her she wasn't going to like what he was about to tell her, Murphy preferred to simply drop the news. He could think of nothing more infuriating than someone trying to predict his reaction to news before giving it to him. He crossed his arms and regarded the bridge crew across the viewscreen. "Sir, every safety lockout has been tripped in the fuel lines. Every single one. It's going to take awhile to get the system inspected and sorted out."

Jane frowned, that might make them fashionably late for the ceremony. "What caused it?" Starships just didn't decide to turn things off randomly.

"I hope that by the time we're running again, we can answer that question for you. Two days, Commander," Murphy replied with a tense expression and tone. He didn't like not having answers, but even worse he knew the time table he'd just given Saulitis wasn't going to be received well.

Letting a breath of air escape her lungs Jane nodded. "Two days Lieutenant." She cut the channel and looked at the Comm officer. "Lieutenant, inform the Bairl Council we will be arriving just in time for the ceremony and send our appologies for the delay. I'll be in my readyroom." So much for sleep. She'd have to inform Vayr.

"Yes Ma'am." The woman replied as she turned her head to watch Jane leave the bridge.
