Mission: A Day In The Life
Location: Sickbay
1479 words - 3 OF Standard Post Measure

Lily felt like she was making a good decision about stepping down from being CMO, when the time came. She wasn't going to be leaving medical but with her feeling rather battle weary, she just needed to re-evaluate, her situation. She tapped on her commbadge, "Commander Sommers, may I have an appointment with you? And where shall we meet?"

"I can come to wherever you feel more comfortable doctor," Lhaes answered as he examined himself in the mirror. Somehow, it felt weird replacing the gold with the teal, but it somehow felt less strange than when he had replaced a long time of wearing grey with gold. "Unless you'd prefer sickbay?"

"Sickbay would work out rather nicely." Lily responded. "I will meet you there, in the office." She arrived there, taking a seat but not at where she usually sat, behind the CMO's desk. She was also drinking some tea which she had made while waiting.

Not long after she did, Lhaes walked in. "I wasn't sure what kind of appointment you were after doctor, so I took the liberty of taking a medkit with me just in case." He smiled at her. "Unless this is some kind of test towards my suitability as CMO?"

"Well..." she nodded towards the seat and the CMO desk, "I'd like you to take a seat there. See how you feel behind that desk." giving a bit of a smile. "And also I have been looking at your certifications, I am feeling confident that you will fit the position of Chief Medical Officer. However, I'm needing to figure out just where I will fit, in the scheme of things. That is something I feel we need to talk about. "

"I feel confident too, but I can use all the help I can get and I would prefer you would remain on as assistant chief," the Romulan answered as he sat down. "I realise you did step down yourself from the chief position, and I will understand if you decline the offer. But I'd be a fool to dismiss your expertise, I need you here."

Lily smiled and gave a bit of a laugh. "I would be delighted to take on the role of Assistant Chief Medical. In fact I had a conversation with the Captain of my desire to step down, I had a taste of being CMO and well, I will maybe sometime be one later on but at this time, I feel you are the better fit, than I am. I'm realizing I needed to take a step back in truth. So I am glad to still be involved with things. And I get to work along side of you. I call it a win win!"

Lhaes smiled. "Well that's settled then. Was there anything else you needed to discuss?"

Lily pursed her lips as she tapped them with an index finger. "I am not certain but when do you want to step into the Role of CMO? "

"I believe I already have. I've already spoken with Captain Rutherford and if I understood correctly, it's effective immediately?"

Lily nodded with a smile. "Yes, it is. So boss, where shall we begin? " giving light hearted laugh. "I just wanted to see if you were ready to begin, hence the appointment."

"Let's begin by reporting in the next shift, and taking now to getting used to new roles," Lhaes suggested, wagging a playful finger at her. "And don't call me boss."

Lily snickered, "I will try not to do so. However you are right, we do need to do that bring in the new shift. And I am feeling really good about the change. I get to learn things from you. Oh that reminds me, does this mean I don't get to work on my phaser qualifications with you?"

"We can if you want to but I'd think that would befall a new security chief and not me. I don't like using phasers to begin with, I prefer a rifle, or close combat."

Lily's mouth formed an 'O' then remarked, "In that case I will wait for the new Security chief, to help on that one but, I am all for learning close combat skills. After... our last adventure, I certainly realized that I am.. a bit unskilled. I know some, but I want to learn more. Also, a question has come to my mind, am I going to need to change out quarters, will we need to move to different ones?"

"I'm happy to spar with you and no you don't need to move. I have family size quarters, and I'd like to keep them. Kids and wife do need some room," he chuckled. "So as far as I'm concerned you can stay where you are."

Lily looked relieved, "Oh good. I was willing to change residences but, thank you!" a big grin appeared. "And we will have to definitely schedule the sparring lessons. And.. oh, your cats, they have been used to being your office hmmnn where will they be at now?"

"In the office, as before. Or my quarters, but they won't be roaming sickbay. You don't mind do you? They're old ladies...."

"Oh I don't mind at all. They would be rather welcome in my opinion. I don't know if anyone is allergic to cats. So set things up how you will need to have it. They might end up going into my research area, which does have some fresh catnip. So figured I'd need to give you a heads up on that as well." Lily replied.

"They do seem to love that," Lhaes laughed, "and they do have a mind of their own aside from the fact that they are used to staying with me. I've had them for a long time and both were kittens when I got them."

"Awww so wonderful." smiling "Definitely sounds like they are being well taken care of. " She looked around the office, her eyes landing on the small basket of fruit. As well as the lavender plant which was blooming. "Do you want me to move those out of here?" nodding towards them.

"Take the fruit, but you can leave the plant if you like."

'Okay now which way to the Assistant Chief Medical office." Lily picking up her fruit. Actually turning the wrong way. " This is going to very interesting, and." she looked very seriously at Lhaes. "Don't get yourself killed either. I don't want to suffer something like that again. My former CMO died and that... vampire hurting you badly, that." she shook her head. "Nope not going to talk about that."

Lhaes pointed to his new desk, expression sobering. "As we probably will not share shifts, this will be your office. I'm sure we can share. As for that vampire... it was frightening. But, it's not the worst I've ever endured. Trust me, during my service as intelligence officer, and even as Tal Shiar operative, I have endured far, far worse. And I have no intention of getting killed any time soon."

"oh good that is a relief. Okay so now that is what we need to discuss as well. Which shift will I be on?" Lily smiled.

"Generally the chief is alpha and the assistant beta or gamma. We can probably overlap if we need to. I have no preference to early or late shift as long as I get to spend time with my family."

"I would think that you take the Alpha shift, and that would work perfectly fine for me. You have a family and that is important to concentrate on. My parents made certain to do that as well, no matter what jobs they had. Family time is very important." Lily giving a nod. "Therefore, tomorrow we start the new shifts and go from there? Or we've already started."

"Tomorrow is soon enough," Lhaes chuckled, "Sekat can oversee things until then."

Lily smiled brightly and nodded, "Very well, then we shall go our separate ways and Tomorrow will be a new day a new beginning."

She glanced around, giving a nod. "It feels right, for this happening."

"I'm glad you feel that way. It feels right for me too, like I've always been working towards this somehow." Lhaes stood and walked her to main sickbay. "Barring an emergency, tomorrow is our first shift."

Lily nodded, "Yes indeed, I will see you tomorrow then Commander Sommers." giving a smile. "I am definitely really excited but I shall endeavor to get some sleep." giving a light laugh.

"Well then, I'll see you tomorrow. I have a family to return to now, and prepare them for a new routine." He smiled back at her, then walked out of sickbay.

Lily took one more gaze about the office, smiled and giving a wave to Lhaes she left as well. To be ready for the next day.
