Pearl arrived inside the security department gazing around at the setup. There was a woman manning the desk in the reception area. The woman looked up, having just finished signing some paperwork.

"Hello, may I help you?"

"Yes I am Ensign Pearl Bijoux, I was sent to report in." Pearl feeling slightly nervous.

A broad smile appeared. "HI there, I'm Ensign Wyome Thorson. I'll get the chief for you." pressing the button to activate the intercom.

"Lieutenant S'vor we have a new arrival, an Ensign Bijoux." Wyome gave a nod towards Pearl. "Have a seat, I am sure he will be out very soon."

S'vor acknowledged the call with a crisp, precise response over the intercom. =^=Understood. I will be there momentarily.=^=

True to his word, the Vulcan security chief emerged from his office within moments, his posture straight and his expression as composed as ever. His dark eyes assessed Pearl Bijoux with a calculating but not unkind gaze, taking in her stance, demeanor, and uniform with silent efficiency.

"Ensign Bijoux," he greeted, his voice even and measured. "Welcome aboard the Majestic. I am Lieutenant S'vor, Chief of Security. You have been assigned to this department, and I trust you will perform your duties with diligence and professionalism."

He gestured slightly for her to stand. "We will review your assignment, expectations, and protocols. If you have any initial questions, now would be the appropriate time to ask."

Pearl at S'vor's gesture stood up, her shoulders back, head held high, parade rest. It was ingrained in her, and she saw someone who had experience. both in action and not in action. Her cheek colored slightly, Pearl having been slightly delayed in her action of standing up when a superior officer arrived. She had been caught off guard by the charisma that was there. Something about him screamed to her here was someone who had seen action and had experience both in the field and off the field.

"Yes sir." Pearl giving a crisp salute, being very glad that she had made certain her uniform was in order.

S'vor observed the slight delay in Ensign Bijoux's response but made no outward indication of it. Instead, he gave a small nod of acknowledgment, returning her salute with Vulcan precision.

"Discipline is an admirable quality, Ensign," he remarked. "However, efficiency is equally valuable. You need not salute aboard ship unless protocol specifically requires it." His tone was not unkind merely instructive.

He motioned for her to follow him into the department, leading her toward an available console. "Your primary responsibilities will include maintaining security patrols, monitoring internal ship systems for unauthorized access, and responding to any security-related incidents. You will also familiarize yourself with tactical training simulations and emergency response protocols."

He turned to face her directly, his hands clasped neatly behind his back. "What is your prior experience in security operations, and do you have any particular areas of expertise?"

Pearl took a seat, and lightly scratched at her right ear. "Well, sir, I was in the Marines. Ground combat, was part of security patrols when out in the field. " she sat at attention. "I have had experience in these matters."

S'vor gave a slight nod, his expression neutral but attentive. "Your experience in the Marines will serve you well here. Ground combat requires adaptability and discipline both valuable traits aboard a starship."

He moved to the console beside her, entering a few commands to bring up the duty roster. "What types of operations did you specialize in during your time with the Marines? Urban environments, reconnaissance, or defensive security?" His tone was precise, each question measured.

"Recon and also where ever they saw fit to place me in. " she gave out a slight sigh. "Sir, I was a problem child in the latter part of my service, before I met up with the Captain who straightened me out. Captain David Scarlet. He managed to get through to me. My earlier part of being in the Marines was really good then,we had a bad commander who had requested that a small squad of marines go with him on an away mission. Which is all good and well, except he had no fleld experience. He felt he was in the right, did things against the advice given by his advisers and the second in command. It was a team of 24, we were to set up an aid station. And recon was done. Found an enemy encampment so it was spoken of changing to another location. The Lieutenant refused. He didn't see the sense in it. Had to follow orders he was in command. The site got attacked, we lost men, and civiilans. He survived, got healed up. I had lodged a complaint against the lieutenant and reported what had happened. The squad leader had been killed, and I wasn't too happy about it. Him not listening cost unnecessary losses. He said it was acceptable losses."

Pearl gritted her teeth, and then continued.

"He wanted me and the new team to accompany him on another away mission of setting up another aid station. I wasn't too happy about being placed on another team where he was in command. He for some reason decided he wanted to prove something to me, and asked to get into the ring with me as i was sparring. And also had overheard a grumble I had where he was concerned. I would respect him if he beat me in a match. I knew better than to really intiate that. He though got in to the ring, said a couple of things that raised my ire, and I agreed to the match. I beat him, knocked him flat out. Sadly though I fell for his trap. I told upper rank officers about what happened, and they didn't believe a word what I said. It got to where I didn't care at all anymore and was sabotaging myself. I had one last chance to redeem myself or get tossed out. Captain Scarlet, saw something in me and gave me my last chance. Got me to straighten up."

S'vor listened without interruption, his expression remaining neutral as Pearl recounted her experiences. When she finished, he gave a small nod, considering her words carefully before responding.

"You have faced both the consequences of poor leadership and the repercussions of defying the chain of command," he stated evenly. "Your grievances were logical, ignoring reconnaissance and dismissing experienced advice is tactically unsound. However, I note that your reaction, while understandable, was not strategic in ensuring the best outcome for yourself."

He folded his hands behind his back. "Discipline is a core tenet of security work, as is the ability to navigate difficult power dynamics. There will be times when we disagree with orders, yet we must determine the most effective means of response. Your experience suggests you have learned this lesson through hardship. Do you believe you have fully overcome the tendencies that led to your self-sabotage?"

"I truly believe that I have fully overcome my tendencies for self-sabotage. I met someone who has been with me through thick and thin. And he was with me when I got the news of my having had passed the exam and my being brought into StarFleet. Life has certainly become a lot more positive for me." Pearl smiling.

S'vor gave a slight nod of acknowledgment, his expression thoughtful.

"Support systems, particularly those grounded in consistency, often play a vital role in an individual’s development. It is commendable that you have both recognized your past patterns and actively worked to overcome them. That speaks to a measure of introspection and growth many do not achieve."

He stepped slightly to the side, folding his hands behind his back as he regarded her more directly. "A positive trajectory, however, requires maintenance. Starfleet will test your resolve, often in ways you may not expect. I will expect you to rely not only on personal support but also on protocol, discipline, and your fellow officers."

There was a pause before he added, "Out of curiosity, this individual who supported you through that transition, are they part of Starfleet as well, or a civilian connection? Either way, their influence seems to have had a stabilizing effect, which is worth noting."

S'vor’s gaze was steady, but not unkind. "I believe in a clean slate when one earns it. Consider this yours, Ensign Bijoux. I will be monitoring your performance as I do with all members of my team, but I anticipate you will prove an asset."

"Thank you, and the person who helped me through the tough time is Lieutenant Johnathan "Jack" MacGyver." Pearl giving a happy smile. "That is the man who has helped me."

S'vor gave a small nod, committing the name to memory. "Lieutenant MacGyver," he repeated. "Noted. His contribution to your development is appreciated, even indirectly. We do not operate in isolation, no matter how disciplined we are."

He stepped back toward his console, activating a nearby terminal with practiced ease. "For now, Ensign, I would like you to begin reviewing the security schematics for Decks 4 through 6. Focus on patrol routes, access logs for the past seventy-two hours, and identify any anomalies, even if minor. I want a summary report submitted by the end of the next duty shift."

Turning slightly toward the exit, he continued, "I have been summoned to the bridge. Ensign Thorson will be available should you require orientation or clarification. Dismissed."

Without further ceremony, S'vor exited the office with purposeful strides, his mind already shifting toward the strategic matters awaiting him above.
