Deep Space Nine held the promise. Cade stepped off of the transport the recycled air of the USS Astria Imprimatur, hull 90202 smelled differently than that of the station was the first thing that hit Cade. Despite the air handling heroics of the stations plant, the sheer mass of persons aboard the station lent its own funk, which Cade actually welcomed.
Dressed in civilian attire of a dark jacket, shirt and slacks blended in well enough. All of his clothing was tailor made and hideously comfortable. His feet were shod in hand made President model lace up boots from Way Far, crafted of coffee black Roo hide. A leather day pack was slung over his back with possessions and possibles that he didn’t trust to the transporter. Traveling aboard the stray for the past week had been interesting, but he’d had almost too much time on his hand as he’d been dead heading. The Stray was a new hull. Recently guided through trials by her Captain Jordan Bowie. Part of her shake down cruise was a swing by DS9 and on, into the Gamma Quadrant for a year long exploration mission.
Cade let his feet guide him as he wasn’t due to check in aboard his new assignment, USS Majestic for a day and he wanted to see the station. Primarily, he wanted to experience Bajoran food and visit the temple here. The worm-hole alien sudo gods was interesting and he wanted to talk to a few Bajorans about that. It had been years now since that relationship had been revealed, but religious dogma didn’t change easily.
Smiling and whistling a half remembered tune, he fished his Kidlar-tok from his suit jackets pocket and flipped the bangle in his fingers, the carved, colored beads intertwined in his fingers as he fidgeted, adding another outlet to his excited energy as he wove though the crowd. He hadn’t eaten that morning with Counselor Vale, though he’d had an expresso with her.
But that had been replicated and he was interested in something fresh. Authentic.
And a redheaded woman caught his attention and he promptly fell in love.
She was dressed in a body wrap that started at her left heal and wound to her right hand, finishing in a glove. That left her opposite limbs bare in contrast. The body wrap had gold filigree leaf and vine work bodice and the five inch heels she wore further accentuated the clench and lift of her derriere. She was a Romulan, Cade realized and that was even more interesting. She turned and their eyes met. Smiling, he kissed his fingers toward her and she smirked, then looked away.
And just like that, the greatest love affair that might have been was over. Another Romulan joined the redhead, this one in diplomatic robes and the two entered Club Marius. Smiling to himself, he flipped the Kidlar-tok and began walking again, heading toward the Celestial Cafe, where he would begin his study on things Bajoran.
Cade picked up the tune he’d been whistling again, an old Earth song called Living the Crazy Life.
