Sightseeing (Part I)

Mission: A Day In The Life
Location: Bajor
1504 words - 3 OF Standard Post Measure

Rynn was making the most of her free time before she had to report to her new ship by doing some sightseeing on Bajor. This was her first visit and she wanted to make the most of it. She'd even left her uniform with her personal items that were waiting on the station to be transferred to the Majestic. Now, dressed in a pair of snug-fitting black pants, ankle boots, and a sapphire-blue blouse, she was determined to enjoy herself.

Leaving contact information at the desk, Cade left his VOQ and excitedly strode through the decks toward the docking ring. There was a shuttle traveling to Bajor and he’d booked a seat. His absorption of Bajoran culture had went well yesterday and he was eager to see their homeward as well. His reporting aboard date had been pushed, giving him more free time and he planned to use as much as possible.

For the day’s excursion, he’d climbed into sage green cargo pants, a long sleeved grey cashmere crew, and a forest green linen boho jacket from Betazed. His feet were shod in his WayFar boots and he had a day pack slung over his shoulder. Risian sunglasses sat atop his head and he’d forgone shaving again for the day, deciding it was going to be a lazy day from the get go.

Winding his way through the decks and people out and about on DS9, he found the docking bay before the appointed time and looked about. Noting yet another redhead (the station was simply brimming with them it seemed) queued up, he adjusted his heading and stepped up near her. “Pardon me, but this is where the shuttle for Bajor is due, yeah?”

She turned around and smiled. "Yes, it is. I assume you're visiting as well?" She was probably just restating the obvious, but he could be here to work.

Grinning, Cade shifted slightly to join her in the line, and said. "Excellent. Yes, just hit the station yesterday off of the Astrea Imprimatur and waiting to join my new ship. Decided to use the time to learn about Bajor and her people. At least as much as is doable in a handful of days while not stressing myself in the undertaking."

I'm Cadence Tyree, by the way, but pretty much everyone but my aunt and my cousin call me Cade."

"I'm Rynna Csira," she replied, smiling. "My friends call me Rynn. Nice to meet you, Cade."

"Rynna. Pretty name for a pretty woman," Cade said easily. "And what do you do Rynna Csira, other than brake hearts?"

That made her laugh. He was definitely a flirt. "I fix things that are broken." She cocked her head to one side. "And what does Cade the Charmer do besides sweep women off their feet?"

"Pediatrist," Cade said dead pan. Then grinned, "Well. General Practitioner - Doctor actually. But feet are a part. of the things that I fix."

"Nice." She almost made a comment about doing house calls, but decided not to. "Is this your first trip to Bajor?"

"It is," Cade confirmed. "I've been mainly focused around Earth and Bajor for the past years without a chance to travel. I find the Bajoran history and culture fascinating."

As the line move, he kept pace with Rynna, keeping an eye out for bordering directions.

"It's my first time, too. I've read about it, but this is my first chance to actually see it."

"Care for some company or do you prefer to experience things on your own?" he asked.

"I'd love your company." A good looking man with a sense of humor would be a great companion for a bit of sightseeing. "I was going to explore and see how much I could get to, so if you have somewhere you'd like to see, I'll let you lead the way."

Offering his elbow as the line started moving, Cade said "Mostly I just planned to follow my feet. My father always recommended that to having an overly planned agenda. More fun that way, so allowing me to lead could be quite the dance. Do you dance, Rynna?"

"I do indeed." She slipped her hand into the crook of his arm. "As long as there's food involved somewhere, I'm all yours."

Once aboard the shuttle, they found a pair of seats together and strapped in. Pulling a palm display, Cade activated the hologram and a map popped up. "I trolled the tourism bot, then contacted the Federation Embassy last night. Talked to a couple of attaches who helped me cull through the places locals would recommend. There's a string of temples I wouldn't mind seeing, a market fair and a festival tonight. We're in the middle of what translates to Echoes of the Founding Night. Dancing, lots of music then a candle lit parade with musicians to the grand temple where there's a service late. Sounds like lots of street food and wine, though it wraps up with the service."

As he spoke, the palm display, cueing off of his voice, showed various pinpoints and a short trail icon of the parade's route surrounded by the festival area.

"There are smaller celebrations held at the other temples as well. But I thought I'd play where I went by ear," Cade remarked as he brushed his shoulder casually with Rynn’s.

"I only looked at what's generally available and decided to see where my feet took me." She grinned at Cade. "I didn't think of seeing what was going on today and tomorrow. I planned to visit a few temples myself. And they have a walled garden that's worth a visit. Add the food, wine, dancing, and candlelight and it sounds like an amazing day." She bumped his shoulder back. "Even better with company."

Twelve hours later<

Yawning, Cadence stretched in his seat and caught Rynna looking at him.

"Guess I'm getting old," he grinned. "It was a fun day so thank you. The garden suggestion was pretty amazing. What was your favorite part?" Still full from the street food tour, Cade felt sleep pulling at his eyelids.

"The gardens. And also, those dancers. I've never seen that type of dancing before." Rynn would definitely look it up later. "I also enjoyed the dancing and the company." She smiled at Cade. "Sharing the day with you made it better. Are you too tired, or can I buy you a drink when we get back to the station as a thank you?"

Chewing through the yawn, Cade smiled at her and said, "I think I can stay awake through a drink. The company is too much fun to part just yet. Known any good spots? Deep Space Nine is something of a mystery still."

"Yeah. Quark's will be busy, but there's a smaller bar off the promenade that has a nice ambiance." The quieter place seemed a better place to wind down after a day on Bajor.

"I place myself in your hands then," Cade said. "Since you've been about the station more than myself. Know any good rumors on what’s happening hereabouts?"

She slipped her hand into the crook of his arm again as she led him toward the promenade. "I promise to be gentle. As for rumors, you always hear something. Especially in a place like this. I've heard several people mention the prophets and Sisko's baseball..."

"That some sort of fantasy team?" Cade joked as they moved into the press of people. The station was even busier than when they'd left and there was a hum of life around them, shaped by the structure of the station. The vibe was markedly different than the one they'd been in just bare hours ago.

"No idea. Some men were placing bets about where it would reappear next. Or if it had been stolen." She shook her head. "I don't think they knew for sure what they were betting on. And there was a merchant selling a travel package to Empok Nor. Something about a winter club." She stopped in front of a door that looked like it came from Victorian England. "They have an interesting selection of drinks."

"Sounds good to me," Cade said. Noting the archaic doors opened inward, he moved to proceed her, holding the door open so she could follow as he looked around. Hardwood abounded. Rich upholstery in vibrant reds trimmed in gold helped absorb the patrons sounds. "Been here before?"

She thanked him as she entered. "Once. I was curious. They make their own mead. But they also have a wide range of drinks, with some names I've never heard of. The furnishings allow you to have a quiet conversation as well, which is also nice." She gave him a self-deprecating smile. "Or, in my case, you want to find a quiet corner to have a drink and read."
