Again we meet

Lily could scarcely believe that she was being called to the Ready room by none other than Elijah Rutherford. Her former CO was now her Captain once again. She pressed the chime to let him know that she had arrived. She heard his call of Enter and stepped inside.

"Ah, Lily thank you for coming in." Elijah stated, "Please come have a seat!" motioning to the sofa which was next to the window looking out towards space. "I've got some tea just freshly made." motioning towards the small table next to the couch.

Lily nodded and moved there taking a seat. She looked at him for a few moments before saying anything, then she spoke, "Well here we are again, serving on the same ship once again. I am surprised to see you again. Never thought we'd be doing so. How are you doing sir?"

Elijah chuckled, "Are we back to square one again? After all, you and I have, or had, been friends. Are we not still friends?"

Lily nodded, " Yes we are but for some reason I am feeling awkward. I never thought that we'd be serving together again. After... after.." Lily just broke down and started crying covering her face, sobbing. She was so tired, so drained from dealing with Adna and also things that had happened before joining the Majestic.

Elijah moved close to Lily and wrapped his arms about her, in a comforting embrace. "Shhhh, Shhh.. it will be okay." gently patting her back. "I won't rust."

Lily buried her face in his chest, letting the tears flow, then sharply looking up when he made his comment, her sobs abruptly stopping. "Really?" then she laughed slightly. Some tears still falling but were slowing down.

"Thank you Elijah." wiping away her tears, with the back of her hands.

"Here, take this would be better to use this instead." handing Lily a clean checkered handkerchief. " I am surprised you are not carrying one, you used to do so."

Lily shrugged, "I forgot to have one handy, never thought I'd be blubbering like a fool." she smiled, "Alright now that the waterworks are done, what was the reason why you asked me to come? I'm sure it was something more than just Hi guess what, I am your new Commanding Officer"

Elijah, now that she seemed to be calmed down, moved back. "Actually, I wanted to speak to you about something. And that is your role as CMO, how are you holding up in that capacity?"

"I guess I am doing well enough, but I am also starting to question the advisability of my staying in that position. I'd like to stay in medical but, after dealing with Adna, perhaps my stepping back from that role would be a good idea. That is, provided you can find someone who qualified in being a good CMO." Lily said quietly.

Elijah's eyebrows raised as he hear this from the young woman he's served with before. "You would be willing to step down from that position?"

Lily nodded, "Yes, I would. And make certain that I am still in medical, would be very important."

"I am astounded, at this turn of events." Elijah remarked, rubbing his chin.

"Well, I did get to experience being CMO it was grand, but I seem to have some underlying issues that I need to address. " Lily stated emphatically.

"Well, I do have someone who is wanting to transfer to medical, and I've approved his request. Lieutenant Commander Lhaes Sommers, he is currently , well, that is formerly Chief of Security. He wishes to put his talents there, I think that Adna has certainly changed things for people, so granted his request. Perhaps.."

"Perhaps he can take over the position instead of me?!" Lily exclaimed, not feeling upset at all.

"Well you are taking this rather well." Elijah remarked.

"I've met him and I think that he would be fantastic in that aspect. I'll have to go talk to him, and ask about the position of CMO, to see if he'd like it." Lily exclaimed.

Elijah just stared at her almost in disbelief. "Wait, you are willing to step down from department head without and not have issues with it? You had dreams about being such, I remember the discussions about it."

"Yes and I have had a taste of it already. So right now the best thing for me to do is take a step back and I don't mind. Therefore, once we figure out where he is at on his certifications, there can be a switch, okay?"

Elijah could only nod at this point, once again Lily surprised him. Much like what she had done when she insisted on rescuing him, no matter the odds. Finally he spoke.

"Well, then in that case, I suggest you go find Lieutenant Commander Sommers and let him know."

Lily nodded, "Yes, I will do such. Thank you, Captain." her usual smile, bright as the sun coming out from behind rain clouds. "If I am dismissed, I'll go find him right away!"

Elijah laughed, "Well... okay then. You are dismissed Lily, I mean Lieutenant Marlow and also, congratulations at the rank upgrade."

"Thank you, and I'll see you later. I've got to check on your healing." Lily said, cheerily before leaving the ready room.

Elijah just watched her go, shaking his head. Wait until he talked to his wife about the interesting turn of events with Lily.
