1073 words - 2.1 OF Standard Post Measure

After Orrin left the Ready Room, Elijah thought for a moment as to who he could send with Orin to take the holo sentients home. He needed someone to fly the runabout that will accomplish this goal. He thought of Dibley and hoped that Dibley would be willing to take on this task. After a few more thoughts, he tapped on his combadge,

"Petty Officer Dibley, please come to my Ready Room, Rutherford out." Now to wait for his arrival.

Dwayne was organizing his collection of superhero cards. He just received a new pack and was gleefully sorting them into his collection. When he heard the summons, he dropped the one in his hand. That meant he had to set both stacks on his table and crawl under it to get the one he lost before he did something stupid like step on it and bend it. Only after he carefully placed it with its brothers did he let himself panic about the summons to see the captain.

he hadn't done anything wrong, so why did the captain want to see him? He took several calming breaths, straightened, and told himself not to be silly. He just had to go find out. Maybe it was about his request for another set of fuzzy dice?

Still telling himself to breathe, he paused in front of the ready room and rang the chime.

"Enter" Elijah called out, letting Dibley in. "Thank you for coming." When the door closed behind Dibley Elijah stood up from his desk and walked over to a chair and sat down, then motioned towards Dibley to take a seat in another. "First off, in case you are wondering, you are not in trouble. I called you here as I need your piloting skills."

"Glad I'm not in trouble, sir. 'Cause I haven't actually done anything yet." He was also wondering why he would need his help.

"Okay I have an away team that is needing a pilot to take them to a planet, to take some guests to their new home. And I would like you to do so. This is very important, Petty officer." Elijah could see that Dibley was hesitant.

"Yeah, just tell me how important it is, sir, and that I shouldn't mess up to make me feel relaxed and confident. No disrespect intended."

Elijah shook his head. "Okay let me just say this. Just breathe." he at least should have remembered to lead with that. This though is giving the captain a bit more insight as to his other pilot.

"I'm still breathing. It's when I stop you need to worry." He grinned at the captain. "But I have to ask...are you sure you have the right person for the job?"

Thinking of Orin, Elijah gave a nod. "I am quite certain of you being the one to be the pilot. And, you will be allowed to bring your dice as well." it was one thing that Elijah had noticed about Dibley, and well if he had lucky fuzzy dice, Elijah felt it couldn't hurt.

"I was going to ask about my lucky dice." Dwayne grinned. "I have a new pair. They're hot pink with blue dots. They're gonna be extra lucky." The single dot was an eye, which he thought made them even better.

"New Lucky Dice? Very well, take them along" Elijah giving a bit of a smile. "Lieutenant Sempton has called for a meeting with those who will be going with him on this away mission. And before you go to the briefing room, I will give you a quick briefing. The mission that I have asked Lieutenant Sempton to lead the away team on, the Photonic guests we've had in one of the holodecks will be taken to their new home. They have been guests with us for some time now and I am certain that they will be quite happy to be able to get off the ship. This will also free up the holosuite for it to be utilized once more."

Rubbing his chin. Elijah continued, "The more I am thinking about this, the more I am convinced that you are the best person to be flying this trip." giving a firm nod.

His grin grew broader. "Thank you, sir. I'll do my best." Which he could assure the captain, seeing he'd have his lucky fuzzy dice with him.

Elijah wondered if he had covered everything that was needed, "The runabout will be stocked with supplies, and some extras to take to the ones you'll be meeting with. This planet from what i have heard, is a mixed population of both humans and Photonics. Anyway, do you have questions you would like to ask?"

"No. I'm sure I will once I get there, but for now, no." He didn't even pause before continuing to ask a question. "These photonics, can they touch and hold things, or are they more like ghosts, because I've heard there are both kinds and I was kinda curious."

"These photonics yes they can touch and hold things. And they have be keeping in the rules that were placed upon them. Not even wanting to roam the ship. They were content in being in their own place, not having to worry about Adna attacking them." a slight frown appeared as Elijah thought about that. "That-station." he shook his head, "Now back to what is on hand, your fuzzy dice, you. That makes for a good crew for Lieutenant Sempton to have for this mission. "

Dwayne bounced on the balls of his feet. "Okay. If you say so, sir." He was happy to fly, but he wasn't so sure about the photonic cargo. Passengers? Either way, light people weren't his thing. But flying was.

Elijah couldn't think of anything more to say top Dibley, most everything else had been set in motion, and he hoped that Orin will be able to accomplish this task. He knew that the time he gave Orin may have been too small of a window, that though was how it was going to be needed to be done.

"Okay Dibley, head on into the briefing and meet the team you are going to be flying on this mission. Thank you once again."

"Yes, sir!" He snapped a saucy salute, performed a perfect military turn, and headed out the door.
